About Me
Hi, my name is Jennifer Ruiz Blandón and I am a License Clinical Social Worker. However, I'd like to think that more than my title, my journey through life is what better describes me.
My journey started in Colombia, South America where I was born. There I learned to speak Spanish and learned a lot of valuable lessons about life, culture, family and much more. As a child I moved to New York, where I learned English and adapted to a new culture. As a young adult I began to explore my likes and strengths to determine what career path I would take. I attended Community College, followed by earning an Bachlors Degree from Concordia College and a Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. My career choice was clear from early on, I looked forward to helping others heal and feel better. The more I learned about my field the more enthusiastic I became. During my college years I was involved in the social work field through employment and volunteering opportunities. I worked with children in the foster care system, children in group homes, homeless communities, and school systems. These opportunities gave me the chance to see the needs and to begin to identify my role in this field. After graduating I was extremely fortunate to work for a wonderful program in a non-profit organization. My understanding, empathy, skills and love for the profession strengthened. I had fantastic colleagues who showed me the way, held high standards and expectation of themselves and each other, which created an amazing program and atmosphere to work in. During this time, I learned a lot about trauma, trained and provided different modalities to my clients. I became more aware that mental health incorporates more than your thoughts and feelings. It’s really about overall wellness; this seed was what lead me to where I am today. In my private practice I feel honored to work with client from different background, cultures, languages and with a variety of presenting problems. Although each person’s life, history, traumas, struggles and strengths are unique my approach with all client is holistic. The mind, heart, body, and spirit are all considered during the healing process. Many times, we are working on healing from things that happened to us, which we did not cause. Although those are not our fault, we do have a responsibility to ourselves to heal from them and live our best lives. My goal is to help other create a life they love living! |
